I LIVE ABROAD,
DO I HAVE TO FILE A U.S. TAX RETURN?
Most US citizens (including dual citizens and Green Card holders) living abroad do have to file a U.S. federal tax return.
You’ll need to file a 2023 U.S. tax return when your annual worldwide income exceeds any of these thresholds:
☑️ US$13,850 for single filers.
☑️ US$27,700 for joint income filers married to an American or a Green Card holder.
☑️ US$5 for individuals married to a non-American and your own total income is over $5 (that’s not a typo).
☑️ US$20,800 for Head of Household (Married or Divorced with US dependents).
☑️ US$400 if you’re self-employed or have any freelance income during the year.
